During Lent, beginning the weekend of February 25-26, our Message Series is called “On the Right Track”. We use this expression quite frequently in our everyday lives. It is often associated with a goal we might want to achieve or a mission we have set out to accomplish. In general, this phrase refers to something we are doing correctly or well but haven’t quite achieved all the answers or met the final goal yet. This seems a fitting expression for our Lenten journey.
Many of us still have a lot to learn and experience on our faith journey. There are many ministries and outreach programs we can get involved in. Yet it is at this time of year that many of our parishioners participate in a Lenten Small Group. For those already involved, I wish you an enriching experience with your fellow Parishioners, one that will deepen your relationships with each other as well as our Lord.
For those who have not been in a Small Group this might be a perfect time to “test the waters” and see if it is something that meets your spiritual needs. We have some excellent material Small Groups will be using provided by Fr. Mark Toups, who has been an inspiration to us in the past. His book and videos have been a wonderful source of discussion on the Gospel. I sincerely hope this season’s Lenten experience will be one of the ways we deepen our faith and support each other as we all strive to be on “the right track”.
During Lent, we also provide support to our OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) candidates. These individuals have been working for some time in preparing for the Easter Sacrament, so that they can be fully initiated into our faith at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday. We will celebrate what are called the Scrutinies. They are meant not only for them but for all of us on our Lenten Journey and preparation for Easter.
I hope you will join us this Lenten season as we strive to deepen our spiritual relationships.
God Bless You,
Msgr. Tom
