Everyday Contemplatives

December 30 @ 7:00 pm

« All Events

Do you crave a moment of calm in the midst of your busy week? Are you looking to go deeper in your prayer? Would you benefit from being part of a supportive small community? If so, come and experience the gift of contemplative prayer led by Patrick Manning and a team of small group facilitators.

We will gather weekly to rest in God’s love and reflect on our experience of prayer and the wisdom of the contemplative tradition. Come, be still, know God, and know that you are loved.

The plan is to keep people in the same group each week rather than mixing the groups randomly each week so as to form some community and allow for deeper sharing.

Please join us for this beautiful prayer practice either through Contemplative Prayer or Lectio Divina. You’re invited to reply below as to whether you will attend and if so, which prayer practice you will participate in.

In the contemplative prayer group, we will again be reading a companion book together – this time Martin Laird’s “Into the Silent Land..” We won’t start discussing the book until the second meeting. You can order a book from us when you register or on your own from Amazon. It is available in a kindle version as well.

Of course, those who choose to do Lectio Divina are welcome to read the book on their own

Patrick Manning is a Saint Helen parishioner as well as Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology and the Director of the Center for Catholic Studies at Seton Hall University. Contemplative prayer is one of his areas of research in addition to being a personal practice. He is husband to Margaret and father to Emily, Luca, and Josie.
